Under the theme Shaping the Future of Energy in a Dynamic World the MEOS 2021 call for papers is now open. Share your expertise with your peers and submit an abstract for your opportunity to speak at the Society of Petroleum Engineers conference. Please read the submission instructions and guidelines carefully before submitting your abstract.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 17 AUGUST 2020

Submission Guidelines

  • Obtain necessary clearance from your management, your partners, and customers prior to paper proposal submission
  • Paper proposals should only be submitted online
  • Paper proposals should be written in English and should provide clear and concise statements on the contents of the paper. It should include brief findings, solutions, impacts, and concluding remarks of the work
  • Early submission is particularly important to ensure that the committee members have ample time to review the paper proposals. Late paper proposals will not be accepted. Submission deadline is 17 August 2020
  • Abstracts should be based on any of the listed topics
  • Please refrain from the use of commercial trade names and language that is commercial in tone
  • Authors should indicate their presentation preference: Oral technical presentation or Oral knowledge sharing ePoster presentation. The programme committee reserves the right to decide on the final allocation and presentation method
  • Authors will be notified of the decision of the programme committee by mid-October 2020 and manuscript submission deadline is on 11 January 2021

Submission Instructions

  • Click on the call for paper submission link
  • All proposals should be compliant to the templates below and as per the Sample Abstract (pdf)
  • Use your SPE Login details to access the submission site. If you are a new user, please create a new user account. SPE membership is not required to create an account
  • After you log in, click on the new submission link. It is mandatory to complete all the below steps in order to finalise your submission
  • Enter your abstract title then press continue
  • Choose your abstract category from the provided list, then click on continue. (Note: you can select only one category that best fits your abstract)
  • Enter author Information then press continue
  • Please answer the required publication questions. Click continue
  • Enter keyword(s). Click continue
  • Enter your abstract text in the abstract field. For more information do refer to the guidelines
  • Please choose your presentation preferences. Click continue
  • Review your work before final submission. Click continue
  • Finalise your submission. Please ensure that you click on the finalise and submit button
  • There is no system auto generated confirmation email. Should you wish to receive a submission confirmation via email, please click on link “if you would like to have a confirmation of your submission emailed to you” provided on the finalise page
  • If you wish to print a copy of your submitted abstract, please click on “Print-Friendly Version of Your Submission” provided
  • Please keep your abstract control/tracking number for any future correspondence with the SPE programme coordinator

FAQs

No, anyone may submit an abstract for an SPE conference.

An abstract should demonstrate that your paper will:

  1. Contribute technically sound knowledge in a particular area of petroleum technology
  2. Present new/novel knowledge or experience that has not been published previously
  3. Not be commercial in nature and will not promote specific companies, products, or services

The abstract should include the following factual highlights:

  • Objectives/Scope
  • Methods, Procedures, Process
  • Results, Observations, Conclusions
  • Novel/Additive Information

The suggested limit is 225-450 words, which should not be constraining if the paper proposal is limited to the defined, factual highlights.

The online submission system will close at 11:59 p.m. Central time on the stated extended deadline date, 17 AUGUST 2020.

The online manuscript system does not send an automated email confirmation.

SPE doesn’t provide a copy of the submitted abstract. If you require an abstract please ask the main author.

SPE will notify all co-authors of the status (accepted or declined) of their abstract after the Programme Committee has completed the review and rating period and made their programme selections.

Yes. Please email the Programme Lead for the conference to ask that your abstract be removed from consideration.

No, as per the SPE Conference Dual Submission Policy, authors are allowed to submit the same abstract to only one conference at a time.
